Digital TV - Punishing the Poor

I was reading the FaceBook page of a friend who works with the homeless. I had not even thought about the repricussions of the digital transition and how it was going to effect the poor and the homeless. You may not have either. Please read the post below.

All remaining full-power television stations still broadcasting in analog will make the transition to all-digital between April 16 and June 12. As of February 17, 2009, about one-third of the nation's full-power TV stations had already gone all-digital.

Working with Low Income Folks, many just moving into housing often with nothing. A Tv is a luxury. Due to the switch many folks are left without any reception due to not having a converter box.

If anyone out there has cable and is able to order DTV coupons, donating them to a local shelter or housing program would be very much appreciated. You would not necessarily have to purchase the box, just order the coupon and donate it if you do not need it. Many of the clients I work with receive an income of 203 which covers rent, food...Ah, not much left....and now no tv.

Please help if you can.

Last year I donated my DTV coupons to a local housing program. The residents really appreciated that.
