grants we have in play. After discussion our club decided to pledge the $100.
per member per year.
November 10 is the district Training and Foundation Day.
Learn about the Rotary Vocational Fund.
Laird
Lynsie was inducted as a new member. Lynsie is with the Boys
and girls club Youth Development coordinator at the campus near Laird Elementary School.
In the Picture, President O’Connor
inducts and Sponsor Jim Lemmon “pins” new member Lynsie.
Dan Hill of the Payson
Club is the new RYLA director. Dan is demonstrating why we are getting a bargain
at $275. per kid who attend the camp. This was a very high energy and
informative. Dan told the club of several success stories and stories of kids
breaking through their own mental barriers.
One such story was of a very large young woman who could not
get over the climbing wall. Eventually she was pulled to the top by her
teammates. Just this last year she became a bone marrow donor and she credits the RYLA program with giving her the
courage and understanding to do this.
Groups or teams are created and named after the countries of
the exchange students who are attending.
The groups are given a “Major Project” that engages the
kids. Applications are due by April 1st. If we have a kid but no
money we they will match us. This year there are changes in the program to get
Rotarian’s to get involved and get a better understanding of what happens and
how much the kids benefit from the program.
RYLA will be April 24th – 27th in
Heber Arizona At the Salvation Army's Camp.
Dan Hill choose the card, he drew Cory’s ticket. Cory drew the 9 of clubs. President Martie
says Cory is still a winner. The rest of us are not so sure.
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 A.M.
